About Artlist
Artlist: Music, SFX, 8K Footage, Templates and AI Generation on One Subscription
Artlist began as a royalty-free music library for filmmakers and has turned into something broader: a single subscription that covers music and sound effects, stock footage up to 8K, video and motion-graphics templates, colour-grading LUTs, editing plugins, and a generative AI toolkit running more than a hundred third-party models. The pitch is consolidation — instead of a music subscription, a stock-footage subscription, and an AI generator billed separately, one plan and one licence covers the whole edit. Its sister site Artgrid, long the dedicated stock-footage arm, is being folded into the same platform, and footage is now part of the main Artlist Max plan.
Key Features
- Royalty-free music and SFX — Tens of thousands of tracks and sound effects, with unlimited access to preview and download stems.
- Stock footage to 8K — HD through 8K in professional delivery formats including ProRes and DNxHR, with RAW/LOG footage available as a checkout upgrade.
- Templates and LUTs — Ready-made video, title and motion-graphics templates, plus cinematic colour-grading LUTs.
- AI Toolkit — AI video, image, voiceover and music generation across 100+ models, including Veo 3.1, Kling, Seedance, Nano Banana, GPT Image, Seedream and ElevenLabs voices.
- Artlist Studio — An end-to-end AI production workspace for casting characters, building locations, framing scenes and directing shots.
- Clearlist — Registers your YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook and Twitch channels against your account so licensed music doesn't trigger copyright claims.
- Premiere Pro extension — Search, preview and download music, SFX and footage, and generate voiceover, without leaving the timeline.
- Artboards — Project boards that collect assets across every catalogue, with AI suggestions based on a written brief.
The Licence Is the Part Worth Reading Twice
Artlist is still widely described online as offering a "lifetime licence" — download once, use forever. Artlist's own help centre no longer describes it that way. Music, SFX, footage and templates are licensed for projects you create and publish while your subscription is active. Finish and publish a video while subscribed and it stays cleared for good, including monetisation, even if you cancel later. But once the subscription lapses, those same assets cannot go into new projects, you lose the ability to re-download them from your account, and the per-asset licence certificates and cue sheets stop being available.
AI-generated outputs are the deliberate exception: anything you generate with Artlist's AI tools remains yours, commercially, after the subscription ends. The practical read is that Artlist's stock catalogue is an ongoing cost you keep paying while you keep publishing, not a library you buy into once — worth knowing before you build a workflow around it.
Social vs Pro Licence
Two licence tiers sit under the plans and they are not interchangeable. The Social licence is for personal creators only: it clears one channel per platform (YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, plus a single podcast) and explicitly does not cover commercial or client work. The Pro licence is the one professionals need — up to three channels per platform, client projects, paid ads, branded content, film, TV and worldwide distribution. Neither licence covers standalone audio use: no radio advertising, no releasing tracks to Spotify, and no music-only playlist or compilation videos, since the sync licence covers music as a bed under picture rather than as the main event. Assets are also non-transferable — you can deliver a finished project to a client, but not the source files for them to reuse.
How "Unlimited" Downloads Actually Work
Downloads are unlimited in the sense that there is no credit meter, but there is a daily fair-use cap that Artlist publishes. On plans that include music and SFX you can pull up to 40 songs and 100 sound effects a day; on Footage & Templates or Max plans it's up to 100 clips, 40 templates and 40 LUTs a day. Re-downloading something already in your download history doesn't count against the cap, and AI generations are metered by monthly credits rather than a daily limit. For normal editing that ceiling is invisible; for anyone bulk-harvesting a library it isn't.
Pricing
There is no free tier for the stock catalogue. You can create an account and generate a small free sample — a handful of AI voiceovers, images, a video and some music — but downloading music, SFX, footage or templates requires a paid plan.
On the stock side, Music & SFX starts at $9.99/month, and Artlist Max — the all-in plan covering music, stems, SFX, footage, templates, LUTs, plugins and the AI Toolkit — is $50.66/month billed annually with 16,500 monthly AI credits. Max Business is $399/month billed annually with 180,000 credits and up to seven seats, adding a business licence and legal indemnification, with a custom Enterprise tier above it. Note that most stock plans are billed annually only; Music & SFX Social is the exception that can be paid monthly.
If you only want the generative tools, the AI-only plans run separately: AI Starter at $19.99/month or $11.99/month billed annually (16,500 credits), AI Creator at $69.99/month or $41.67/month yearly (80,000 credits, plus unlimited generation on 13 models), and AI Professional at $399.99/month or $239.99/month yearly (500,000 credits, unlimited across 18 models). Annual billing saves around 40% on the AI plans. All prices exclude VAT and local taxes.
Who It's For
- YouTubers and social creators who need cleared music plus a way to stop copyright claims on their channels
- Video editors and filmmakers who want 8K, ProRes and RAW/LOG footage without per-clip licensing
- Agencies and freelancers doing client work, where the Pro licence's commercial coverage is the requirement
- Teams consolidating separate music, stock-footage and AI-generation subscriptions into one bill
- Anyone producing video continuously — the licence model rewards steady publishing and penalises stop-start use
Conclusion
Artlist is one of the few subscriptions that genuinely covers an entire video workflow: score, sound design, footage, templates, grading and now generative AI, under a single commercial licence with real channel clearance behind it. The trade-off is structural rather than a matter of price. Because the stock licence only covers what you publish while subscribed, Artlist rewards people who ship video continuously and punishes anyone treating it as a one-off asset purchase. If you publish every week, it's excellent value; if you need three clips for one project and nothing after, buy them elsewhere.
